Genghis Khan Lodge

This place is kind of old and small, but it has its own charm and makes a great ski-in/ski-out base camp. I shared a super tiny private room for two. It’s not somewhere to hang out in your room, but there’s a basement space for boards, skis and wet boots. The staff were really nice and helpful, and the food was great. Bathrooms are communal. There’s no onsen here, but you can easily walk to the ones in town, and the staff will point them out on a map.

The staff were friendly and proactive about helping guests. They offer a shuttle to and from the bus terminal, and the location is great, just 200 meters from the cable car station. There’s also a room for ski and snowboard gear.

I’ve stayed here every year for the past three years, and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year. The lodging is in Kaminodai, right in front of the slopes. The building is a little old, but when you’re tired, you’re probably just going to sleep anyway, so it’s not a big deal. They provide rides to and from Zao Bus Terminal, and serve homemade Genghis Khan.
