Chalet Shiga

Dinner is a delicious kaiseki meal, with all the dishes served together, and breakfast was outstanding too. We stayed seven nights and found the whole hotel spotlessly clean and comfortable, with exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. The level two common area seems to have been renovated recently and is a lovely place to meet after skiing and dinner. The Diamond chairlift is a short walk across the road, and it's easy to ski back to the front door. The standard throughout the hotel is very high. I'd highly recommend Chalet Shiga and the Shiga Kogen ski area. I've skied at least seven resorts in Japan.

The rental team made getting out on the slopes so easy, and the dinners were a daily highlight, thoughtfully put together and delicious. Breakfast was great too. Everyone welcomed us warmly when we arrived, including the staff, Asuka, and the owners. Chalet Shiga was spotless, cozy, and very comfortable as a base for our eight-day ski holiday. It felt like staying with FAMILY, not just at a chalet. We loved it enough that we're already planning another visit at the end of the year. Chalet Shiga made the trip unforgettable, and we can't recommend it enough!

The restaurant staff were fantastic, always courteous and friendly, and the food was nice, authentic Japanese fare. The cozy, warm lounge is good for chatting with family and friends, though it closes at 10pm and doesn't open until 7am, so late-night relaxing there isn't an option. For skiing, the chairlifts are only 100m away, and the rental shops downstairs give hotel guests 20% off. Our room was clean and comfortable with the basic amenities. It had a toilet but no bath, so bathing meant using the Japanese-style public bath.

There's a bus stop right beside the hotel, which made getting here from Nagano easy. Downstairs, the restaurant and cafe had a wide selection of beer and sake, and the rental shop staff were the nicest. The hotel is cozy and right by the slopes. It seems to have been recently renovated, and the decor gives a feeling of being caught between 1925 and 2025. Breakfast was very nice, and the rooms were clean and warm. You can switch off the heater or open the window if the room gets too hot. The onsen isn't natural but was warm, and the sauna also seemed renovated. The older man at reception, who seemed to be the manager, was a little grumpy, but the rest of the staff were amazing. I'll definitely visit again!
