We loved our stay here. The hotel is more than two hundred years old, yet very well cared for, with clean, polished corners and interior details that bring out the beauty of the nature outside. Our room was roomy and comfortable, with both a bed and tatami, plus a warm table. The private outdoor onsen was lovely, though hotter than we're used to. There was a faucet for adding cold water to bring the temperature down. Every meal was fresh and tasty, and each dish stayed with me. The place felt spacious and quiet, and everyone we met was welcoming. They even took care of our car and lifted the windshield wipers during a heavy snow night when we forgot. For foreign visitors, the staff weren't very fluent in English, and there were few, if any, English signs around the hotel. Please be prepared and respect their space. This has become one of my favorite hotels. Highly recommend!! More on IG @bos.recc

The facilities are old, but spotless, and the food was excellent. I especially liked the udo (Japanese spikenard). I came alone on a business trip, and the quiet, secluded hot spring location was a treat, perhaps because it was off-season. Unlike a famous tourist spot, it was peaceful. Falling asleep to the stream below was a real luxury. This feels like a place to rest and get away from everyday bustle, more than a lively family getaway. The large public bath right in front of the hotel is open for guests to use freely. Yamada Onsen's water is very hot. I was surprised at first despite liking hot baths, but got used to it. Nearby, Raiden Falls tumbles down from the mountaintop and is breathtaking. When I visit Yamada Onsen again, I'll stay here.

I had a very satisfying stay at this quiet, uncrowded ryokan, and the price felt reasonable. The hot spring water was pleasantly bubbly and comfortable. The kaiseki meals beat what I'd expected, with fresh ingredients and delicate flavors.

The food was delicious, and the place felt restorative and relaxing. It's such a hidden gem that I'd almost rather keep it to myself, but I'd be devastated if it didn't do well and had to close.

We had a wonderful time, and were grateful for the shuttle service. The room with its own open-air bath was spotless in every corner. Customer service, hospitality, cleanliness, the hot springs, and the food were all superb. Thank you so much.
