The setting is the highlight: a river below, hills covered in trees, and beautiful shades of green in every direction. We drove up from Kunamoto, and it was easily the most exciting drive I’ve ever taken. The mountain road was very narrow and winding, with room for two cars to struggle past each other, though we didn’t see a single other car. Nearly every turn opened onto a spectacular view. The all-inclusive food was genuinely top notch. Dinner was a multicourse meal in our own private dining room overlooking the river, including savoury custard that was unusual but unbelievably good. Breakfast was a generous spread of smoked fish, tofu, fermented and sour plum, seaweed, small vegetable dishes with wasabi and sesame oil, plus miso soup and rice. The rooms were the letdown. There’s no natural onsen, just large bathtubs, which are fine, but the rooms felt dark and dingy. I didn’t want to relax in there beyond bedtime. Even so, this is a spectacular part of the country, with great food and service.

The rooms felt roomy but cozy, with luxurious decor and lots of useful amenities. The food was delicious and filling, too. A fantastic experience and definitely worth the trip.

I came for a pre-opening visit to look for issues before the official opening, so I’m not judging too harshly. The G type room was beautiful, with modern Japanese design and a large bath. The restaurant food was good, and they said the menu would be improved, which sounds promising. I did feel the surrounding area was too visible and not secluded enough. Seclusion was something I wanted from a trip to this location. If the planned improvements happen, I think it’ll be well worth a visit.

The hotel is very new and nicely maintained, and it seems well suited for families. The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff were very nice. It is quite remote, though, about an hour’s drive from Yame town center.

I’m very thankful I got the chance to stay here. The staff were passionate about helping resolve a problem, and I’d highly recommend the place and love to visit again.
