Sky Tea House was such a memorable place to stay. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well cared for, and I found the story behind the house fascinating. Mr. Jiro was so kind and accommodating the whole time. Even though our visit was short, it felt like being in a Ghibli movie out in the Japanese countryside. It’s a lovely spot to slow down, think, and feel close to nature. I’d absolutely come back.

Tea harvest season made my visit especially memorable. Jiro showed me around the farm and even let me help pick tea. I loved sharing meals and so many cups of tea with everyone, and I felt part of a lovely community right away. It was also really handy that they could pick me up and drop me off at a station. Jiro offered to stop at the supermarket on the way to the farm, too. I’d be very happy to return :)

We only stayed one night at Sky Tea House and immediately wished we’d booked more time. The place has a friendly, hostel-like feel, and the area is peaceful, with tea farms all around. We shared dinner with Jiro and the other guests, with a volunteer cooking in the shared kitchen. Jiro makes several delicious teas to try, and the sunset was beautiful.

We came at the end of April to learn about making Japanese green tea, and Jiro patiently walked us through every step, even though the house was fully booked and he was very busy. The guesthouse is simple but beautiful, set among Yame’s mountains and tea fields. We had a lovely time and met some wonderful people. All the best to Jiro, his family, and the volunteers!!!

I didn’t stay at Sky Tea House this time, but I did take Jiro-san’s tea tour of Yame. It’s a great way to learn more about Japanese tea history, culture, and production. Jiro-san has traveled a lot and is easy to talk with, so I came away with both new knowledge and lovely memories.
