Yatsushiro Grand Hotel

I stayed with two friends, and it didn’t feel cramped. The place wasn’t dirty and didn’t smell bad. A few more kinds of vending machines would’ve been nice.

For the condition of the facility, it seems a little expensive. There’s parking, but trucks have to pay a fee. Even vehicles smaller than a mid-size car, such as a Caravan, Vellfire, or GranAce, are treated as too large and likely to get in other cars’ way, so they’re charged too. Those can be driven with a regular license. I’m not sure about light trucks. If that doesn’t work for you, I’d suggest bringing a separate car to travel between work and the hotel. I paid the parking fee myself.

In October 2025, I booked the hotel’s fireworks festival package. I called to ask about the cancellation fee if the event was called off because of rain, and was told they’d still charge 80%. Even though it was a fireworks package, I wasn’t fully convinced. I accepted it without arguing because I figured it must be the hotel’s policy. During my stay, the experienced woman at the front desk was very polite and helpful. Thank you. But while I was sitting and watching TV, the chair joint suddenly came apart. I wasn’t being rough with it, and I nearly fell. I reported it at checkout, and the young woman at the desk only said, “Okay, I understand...” It was disappointing. I would’ve hoped she’d ask if I was hurt, but I didn’t feel like saying more and left. For that experience, 35,000 yen was a lot to pay for a lesson learned. I won’t stay here again and wouldn’t recommend the hotel to close friends. I am grateful, though, that it gave me shelter from the rain and wind.

My daughter and I stayed at this large hotel in Yatsushiro City. It can even host traditional wedding ceremonies, and it’s close to town. The free parking was convenient. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet after taking a morning walk to the riverside park. The food was delicious, and the service was great. We’d definitely stay here again.
