Four Points Flex by Sheraton Yokohama West

For my first solo trip to Japan, this was a really good choice. The staff were kind and helpful, and the hotel was clean and well cared for. It was easy to get around from here, whether I wanted to catch a train, see the sights, eat, or shop. I had breakfast included and enjoyed starting each day with a proper meal. I’d happily come back.

The location was a big plus: close to Yokohama station, a grocery store, late night food, and a tonkatsu place that stays open late. Check-in and checkout were simple, with staff on the second floor, and the room was cleaned every three days. I stayed a week in a single twin room. There was enough floor space to open two suitcases in front of the bed and by the door, or three if you used the bed area. My main frustration was that the hotel doesn't forward luggage. It belongs to a larger brand now and isn't especially cheap, so I was surprised this was the first hotel on my trip without that service. There’s a kuro neko sort of nearby, but hauling bags over the bridge was a pain. Nothing was especially bad or memorable. I'd stay again if the rate was right.

I was in Tokyo for a flight transfer and decided to stay here briefly. The room was very clean, and I appreciated the facilities, especially the microwave. The last time I had one in a Marriott room was in a large flat with a private pool in mainland China, so it stood out. The mattresses are Simmons brand, though I'm not sure whether every Marriott uses Simmons or its own brand. I had a great stay and would recommend the hotel.

Set at the quieter end of a busy street, this is a handy, fairly peaceful place for backpackers. Donki and Aeon supermarket are nearby for essentials. The lobby staff were friendly and let me check in half an hour early. Housekeeping can come daily if you ask. I noticed a little dust in the corners, but it didn't bother me. The room is the usual tight Japanese hotel size. The sink is very small and low, and you can't adjust the shower head angle. For breakfast, buying directly from Matsunoya restaurant can cost half as much as the hotel's voucher. In the room there are towels, a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, slippers, a USB charger, safe, minibar, kettle, fridge, refreshing spray, hangers and a shoehorn. The lobby has toothbrushes, toothpaste, face wash, cleansing gel, body lotion, body milk, razors, hairbrushes, cotton swabs and pads, loofahs and pajamas. You can borrow a luggage rack, air purifier, iron, ironing table, trouser press, umbrella or desk lamp. On the lobby floor there are vending machines, an ice maker, microwave and coin laundry.
