Oakwood Suites Yokohama

We spent two weeks here in Yokohama. The rooms looked modern, just like the photos, and the gym was clean, pleasant, and never crowded. The morning and evening views from the room were so calming. There’s a large supermarket nearby with fruit, vegetables, and good-quality meat, plus a train station that was very helpful. For a longer stay, I did miss having a meeting room where I could take a call or study late at night outside the room.

The convenient location was about the only thing that made this stay worthwhile. The room was spacious, but dusty, and the bathroom didn’t seem properly sanitized. Furniture looked dated, too. Noise came through the walls from both neighbors and traffic, making it hard to sleep. At check-in, things felt chaotic and took far too long; the front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and not very helpful. The fitness center had several machines out of order, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable when I needed to stay connected. I had high hopes for Oakwood Suites Yokohama, but all these problems made it a letdown.

The gym was easily the best hotel gym I’ve ever used, and the Wi-Fi connection was strong. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the views were extraordinary. With a train station right outside, getting around was a breeze. There are also lots of great sights and parks within walking distance, plus a nearby grocery store with fresh, quality food. One of the best hotels in Yokohama.

For the price, I expected a calm, premium stay, but Oakwood Suites Yokohama felt like a loud high-rise hostel full of inconsiderate tourists. The advertised view is freely available from the lobby, which made it seem like a weak reason for the inflated room rates. Cleanliness was also a serious problem: there was hair in the refrigerator, and the bathroom smelled of sewage, making it difficult to relax or shower. When I asked for a one-hour late checkout, until noon, they refused and said they were fully booked, even though check-in is at 3 PM. Service, value, and basic hygiene all fell short of what I expected from a 4-star property at luxury rates. I’d spend my money elsewhere, where the quality and service may be much better for half the price.
