The service was superb, and the view from the room was breathtaking. The outdoor onsen had an equally stunning view. It's a traditional hotel with a lot of history. We forgot some belongings, but the staff noticed and sent them to our hotel in Sendai.
They treated our group like VIPs, and even carried our luggage to the rooms and ferried us to and from the ski slope. The service is top notch, the food is great, and the rooms are super comfortable. Amazing experience, a must-visit!
The views are lovely, both from the open-air onsen over the valley and forest and through the wide glass window in the indoor onsen. But I have to mention the water wasn't clean. Even though the hot spring water circulates, it seemed the tub hadn't been cleaned for at least a week, and there was a lot of sediment floating in it. Women, be careful about the cleanliness.
Both the indoor and outdoor hot springs have lovely forest views and are really relaxing. The rooms were clean, the food was delicious, and the staff were very friendly. I've visited twice, in 2002 and 2014, as part of the Yonezawa Sister City delegation from Moses Lake, Washington, and had a very pleasant stay each time. I hope to come again next time I'm in Japan. Thank you very much！
For just 700 yen, I got to try both the indoor and open-air hot springs at Nakaya in March 2023. The outdoor bath was my favorite, with a beautiful view of the river at the bottom of the valley. Highly recommended as a stop when visiting Shirabu onsen.
