Our room on the third floor had gorgeous views and lovely tatami mats. We also loved having three private onsens for family use, since the rooms don’t have showers. There was always at least one open, and usually all three. Dinner was the real standout: a fantastic seven-course meal, with the chef doing a wonderful job accommodating my wife and me as vegans. The breakfast buffet was much more modest, though, and not great for vegans. Even the soy pulp had ham in it. This was our favorite hotel in Japan!

We came to hike Mt Yufu, and this place exceeded every expectation. The location, room, private baths, food, and service were all fantastic. One of the best places we’ve stayed in Japan.

The Enokiya team made the food a real highlight for me. They use local ingredients and bring traditional Japanese cooking together with modern fine dining in a way that really impressed me. The staff were kind and welcoming too, and made us feel at home. Probably the best hotel in Yufuin, and we’ll definitely return.

The private onsens are hard to beat for the price, and the breakfasts were generous and filling, especially the chicken dishes. Staff were pleasant and spoke English fluently. When I had a headache around 3 a.m., a sleepy but charming night staff member brought me two over-the-counter pills. It’s popular with families, so solo travellers may find it a bit crowded. Highly recommend.

This is a cosy, clean, dog-friendly modern boutique hotel with 12 rooms, in a quiet but convenient spot. There are three onsens with showers, and the Japanese breakfast was lovely. The omakase dinner is good value, but you need to book it in advance.
