We stayed in Sumire・Kaede on Wed 29 Oct. The room was spacious and comfortable, everything was spotless, and the appliances and furniture were very well maintained. We also really enjoyed having our own onsen. Dinner was hotpot with fresh vegetables and a super generous serving of meat. Breakfast exceeded expectations, with a thoughtful spread of local dishes. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and the dog was super cute too! The host was a kind gentleman who helped us out of the car park and saw us off in the traditional Japanese way. It really touched me, as I don't experience that much these days when travelling around Japan as a foreigner. Thanks for such a lovely experience!

Ikeda-san was a wonderful owner. We managed a little conversation with a translator, and although the location is a bit far from everything, he drove us between the hotel, city centre, and train station. He also has a cute little dog called Boss. Our room, Sakura, had everything we needed: a microwave, fridge/freezer, hot and cold water dispenser, hair dryer, TV, A/C, and heater. The ensuite onsen felt incredible after a cold day of riding bikes. It looks out onto a sakura tree in a small courtyard, which hadn't quite bloomed yet. There was a Western bed, but we chose futons and had to set them up ourselves. We asked for breakfast on our second day. Each item was well seasoned and portioned. We had a lovely stay. Thank you!

Getting around the area was easy by car, with the places we wanted to see close by. The staff were really friendly, our room was fairly clean, and there were lots of amenities, including a private onsen with room for 2-3 people. There aren’t bus stops nearby, though, so public transport means a bit of walking. We’ll definitely stay here again when we visit Yufuin.

The shuttle was especially helpful. They picked us up at the station, then collected us again after we’d finished exploring the main street. Dinner and breakfast were nice too.

The room was really spacious and a little dated, but well kept. There’s plenty of parking, which is handy if you’re driving, though it’s a short drive from Yufuin centre. I believe the host offers a shuttle as well. And a private onsen at an affordable rate? Hard to ask for more 🥹
