Oyado Kotori no Tayori

Our hilltop accommodation at Enowa was luxurious and modern, and the food is what sets this Ryokan apart. The farm-to-table focus really came through, and chef Tashi Gyamtso is world class. We’ve eaten at more than 100 Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and this cooking was at a two-star level. It’s our favorite Ryokan experience so far.

We were a little worried the food might not live up to the pictures, but almost everything we had at breakfast and dinner exceeded expectations. The chef and kitchen team really know their sauces. Our villa was comfortable and beautifully furnished, with its own onsen and pool, and the service felt both personable and professional. We also appreciated the complimentary rides into the quaint, interesting town of Yufuin. Enowa is a wonderful modern onsen resort on a beautiful hillside above town. Book early and you may get a significant discount. Highly recommend.

The location, room, onsen, and breakfast were all great, and the stay felt worth the price. I did wish breakfast had more options, and the room lights were hard to figure out. Staff need more training. I asked a few questions and they couldn’t answer, and didn’t try to find out, which bothered me. When they brought our bags, one fell. They apologized but never checked whether anything had broken.

The welcome started with a warm, thoughtful pickup, and the accommodation was comfortable and kept in lovely condition. We especially enjoyed the fresh vegetables and seafood, along with dinner and breakfast. A wonderful experience, and we’d gladly recommend it.
