It’s peaceful here, but convenience stores are still reachable, about a 20-minute walk or five minutes by taxi. The staff are friendly and the food is delicious. Having a private hot spring meant I could soak any time, day or night. There is a 10 p.m. curfew, which suited us since we came for a taste of simple village life. If you really need to return later, the staff are happy to accommodate it. I’d come back.

The three of us in my family had a really nice stay. The boutique ryokan’s staff were friendly and accommodating, and while there was a little language difficulty, we never had trouble communicating. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, and we got to eat together in a private dining room. The onsen was clean, and having a private one was really nice. I’d stay here again. My only gripe is checkout at 10 a.m. feels early, and I wish it were 11.

The in-room hot spring bath was very comfortable, and we were extremely pleased with the delicious food. Staff were wonderfully friendly. When we mentioned that the room was cold, they promptly brought us an electric heater. The only minor drawback was having to shower outside in the snow, which was freezing. Otherwise, no complaints.

After living overseas for more than 30 years, I hadn’t been able to return to Japan for the past few years because of the Corona disaster. When I finally came back after a long absence, I stayed at The Ryokan and found the atmosphere, service, and food excellent. Someone had called it old, but I thought it had character. I came with my family this time, and everyone was happy. I’d like to stay here again when I visit Oita.
