Yufuin Besso Shikisai Hotel

I felt at home here. The room was modern and cozy, and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Housekeeping did a great job every day, and the free Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout our stay. It was cleaner and more comfortable than I expected. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The outside onsen was a pleasure, and I enjoyed four excellent meals during my stay. This is a small family-run ryokan a little way from the train station, with a peaceful setting. The rooms were spacious and meticulously clean, with western beds. The meals are carefully timed, elaborate kaiseki dinners, beautifully prepared. I strongly disagree with reviews complaining about the meals while expecting walk-in smorgasbord service. Please ignore comments from travelers who don’t understand the culture.

The meals were a real highlight: each dish was delicious, carefully prepared, and beautifully presented with local ingredients and seasonal flavors. I’d stay at Yufuin Besso Shikisai Hotel again if I visit Yufuin, and recommend it to anyone wanting a restful stay.

It’s a good old-style Japanese hotel, and the staff were friendly. I can understand some Japanese, but having staff who could speak English helped a lot. I assume they were foreigners too. The hot springs aren’t very big, though they’re enough for a decent soak. The two public onsens switch each day. Meals were decent, nothing especially surprising, but good enough. It’s about a 25 minute walk from the JR station. I’m still young enough that the walk was fine for me, but others might find it tiring, so I’d suggest driving.
