There aren't restaurants, cafes, or convenience stores nearby, so pick up what you need in town. Since the ryokan is tucked away from Yufuin city, most guests drive or take a taxi. The ride is about five minutes, or a 30-minute walk. We were lucky to get a room with its own onsen facing Mount Yufu. You can also book the enclosed or open-air family baths at no charge. During happy hour, 4pm to 5:30pm, we spent time in the library with free-flow drinks before dinner. The kaiseki meals were exquisite. We stayed multiple nights and got to try the kitchen's range, including a fugu-themed meal made from different parts of the fish. Breakfast was so generous that we only needed a light lunch or snack. The property has grown over time, and its rooms each have their own character, with different sizes, views, layouts, and facilities. It's dog-friendly, too. We saw several families with their dogs, and there's even a dog park on site.

Chef Nishimura-san's cooking was among the best kaiseki I've had, even after eating plenty in Kyoto. There was great variety each day, and the seven-course fugu, or pufferfish, dinner was a remarkable display of skill. My husband and I felt completely relaxed in the serene setting overlooking Mt. Yufu. Everyone who helped us was friendly and kind, especially Ota-san, who made us feel comfortable and welcome. I hope to return.

The views are astounding, and the service was even better. This is a great place for authentic Japanese Kaiseki and a personal onsen, and it's close to other tourist attractions. I loved staying here.

I stayed here in March 2025. The surrounding landscape was amazing, and the onsen in the suite was phenomenal. The property is pristine. You must go.

The staff and locals were all very friendly, and I had a wonderful time. It's one of the best hot springs I've visited. I'll definitely return, and next time I'll rent a car to make getting around more convenient.
