Echigo Yuzawa Hirokawa

The inn has a cozy, old-fashioned feel. The building looks dated from outside, but it’s clean and well kept inside. It seems family-run, and the hostess was so kind and helpful. The grandma is adorable, and seeing their smiles was a lovely way to start the day. We chose a tatami room, which felt a little more spacious than the Western-style rooms. The hotel’s hot spring was a comfortable size for 2-5 people and had just the right temperature. If you want a bigger bath area, there are several within a five-minute walk. We didn’t buy meal plans, but they kindly served guests simple breakfasts, such as miso soup with a rice ball, inari sushi, or rice dumplings. All of it tasted really good and felt heartwarming. We were there for a seven-day ski trip, and I’d definitely stay here again if we visit.

Aki and her daughter were always trying to make our stay a great one, and the service was 10 out of 10. The rooms have been remodeled and were spotless, even though the website makes the hotel look old. It’s about a 5-8 minute walk from Echigo-Yuzawa station. Aki is helpful and easy to communicate with in English. I highly recommend staying with them.
