Grindelwald

It's a cute little vintage hotel, and it didn't feel too old. The food had lots of delicious flavors. The resort is about a 10-minute walk away, but the very friendly owner drove us there and back. The Japanese person who brought me here seemed pleasantly surprised too.

We arrived at the lodge around 9 in the morning in January 2013, and it was convenient to leave our luggage, change clothes, and buy discounted ski slope tickets right away. The building is quite old, but it was clean and comfortable, and the owner was very friendly. He seemed busy, since he handles most things himself. This is a very good ski lodge, with reasonable prices and delicious food. It's well equipped for children, has ample parking that you can use after checkout, and offers a shuttle to Naeba Slope. You can also walk to Naeba Slope. The drying room is large, and the room had a toilet and sink, though other reviews suggest some rooms may not. Towels and toothbrushes were provided, and there were holes available. A few things to know: the drying room isn't suitable for skis because it has no locks, and there's no place for hot waxing. The TV is a CRT, and there is no loungewear, as is common at ski lodges. The shuttle car isn't big, so a large group may need to go back and forth.

The meals were delicious, both breakfast and dinner, and the staff were kind. The hotel was clean and had a lovely atmosphere, so I had a really enjoyable stay. It was also easy to get there with bulky ski gear, since the bus stop from Echigo Yuzawa Station is nearby. They gave me a ride to the ski resort too, which made the trip comfortable. I'd like to stay again.

I stayed for skiing in January 2024, and for 8,000 yen per person including coupons, the value was high. Breakfast and dinner were tasty home-style meals, the shared bathrooms and toilets were clean, and the inn's exterior and dining room were clean too. The drying room was spacious and clean, and there is a covered parking area with limited spaces. The ski resort is under a 10-minute walk away. I didn't request the shuttle. A ski rental shop is nearby, and there's a Kinroku Eleven 3rd store on the way to the resort. If a room is available, early check-in is free. They also store shoes and luggage for free after checkout, and parking is available. A few things to keep in mind: rooms have no sink or toilet. The Western-style toilet is new but doesn't have a bidet. About three showers in the men's bath only had lukewarm water and couldn't be used, though the bathtub is large. No amenities are provided. There are two dogs, but although I have allergies, I was fine. The owner is very friendly and approachable, which makes the place relaxing. He takes care with the morning coffee, made from freshly ground beans. It isn't perfect, but between the service and the price, it's one of the most satisfying places I've stayed on a ski trip. I'd come back when I go to Naeba.
