Everyone was so welcoming, and I only wish we'd stayed another night. It's a classic, old-school Japanese ryokan, with ramps running between the floors. The staff are excellent and try to speak English; they also happily use Google Translate, even the aunties who help with the service, which was really cute. They have all the amenities for young children too. I recommend staying here.

The kaiseki dinner was one of the best I've had so far, especially the steak, which was soft and juicy. There was more than enough food, and I could barely finish it. The staff were all friendly and helpful. My room was a little old but clean, and they prepared the futon while I was having dinner. It had a bath, though I didn't use it. Instead, I asked at the Front for the free private Onsen and enjoyed that. This is a traditional Japanese inn in Oyasukyo in Akita. You need to drive or rely on the inn to pick you up from a station somewhere in town. It's not cheap, but if you're looking for ryokan service, I'd recommend it.

The lady of the Inn was very friendly and spoke some English. There are lots of baths to choose from, plus a cozy sitting room and a quaint souvenir shop. The interior has an old-fashioned kind of luxury to it. It feels like time stands still here.
