Ocean View Nyali Boutique Hotel - Hostel

Getting around was convenient: City Mall is about a 10-minute walk, Nyali Mall around 15 minutes, and taxis, tuk-tuks, and motorbikes pass the gate regularly. But I can't recommend staying here. The property feels like a house turned into a hotel, and the advertised beach access is blocked by nearby construction. They apparently used to have access, but no one told us when we called to check. Our room was in the basement, with little airflow, no AC, and just a wall fan that only swung about 45 degrees. The mosquito nets were too small to cover the beds properly. The bathroom often had no water, and the floor became dangerously slippery after a shower. Towels were provided, but they were old and torn. The double room had one twin bed and one single bed. The pool water tasted salty. Its shallow end is nearly five feet deep, there are no safety rails, no lifeguard, and only one float. I wouldn't call it family friendly, especially for children still learning to swim. Food was another problem. Pork is served, so it may not suit Muslim guests. The menu is limited, and they charge extra to heat food brought from outside. Toast is made in a sandwich press, and they serve jam but no butter. There's a central bar playing loud music until after 10 p.m. I'd give the place zero stars if I could. Don't pay ahead. Check the room they plan to give you before deciding. I wouldn't recommend it.
