The ocean view is excellent from anywhere in the large rooms, and the atmosphere is calm and peaceful, away from the usual city bustle. It feels very private and intimate, just right for a getaway. A must try if you haven’t been.

It’s a great public beach that almost feels private. Only a few locals seem to come by, swimming after their morning jog or sitting along the shore in the evening to watch the sunset.

My time in Kenya was such a beautiful experience. I was in Shelly beach in 1999, and Mombasa was a lovely place to celebrate New Years eve going into 2001. It felt beautiful and very religious. I miss that.

The owner of tijara beach is extremely hostile toward poor local people and doesn’t want to see them near his property. Sometimes he has them arrested and sent to jail for no reason, so they’ll stay away.
