We brought a team here and found a spacious property on a generous plot, but the management let the place down badly. I wouldn't bring your money here. Look elsewhere. The food is bland and there’s very little variety. It can be hard to find anything you can stomach for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even the 4 o'clock tea. The no alcohol policy is frustrating. They won't sell alcohol, though you can bring your own, and then staff heavily police where you take it, supposedly to cater to families. We were also promised football on the DSTV screens, but weren't allowed to watch it. A staff member kept monitoring us and raising all kinds of concerns about what we were doing. The Wi-Fi is unreliable. The rooms are dated, as is common at many Kenyan Coast hotels and resorts, though the hotel does seem to maintain them. Some air conditioners and phones in the rooms weren't working.

The upgrade to an apartment in the tower was the one good part. The apartments are nice. There were lots of children there on the weekend, but no entertainment for them this time. This was my third stay. 2019 was the best, and 2024, during the change to new management, was not too bad. But after the management change, I wouldn't recommend coming back. In Nov 2025 the food was really bad, I'm not exaggerating. Some staff were rude too. Kepha in the dining room yelled at older guests and children, while Lawrence at reception kept typing and wouldn't look up when I spoke to him, as though I was interrupting his work. If you loved this hotel before August 2024, you may not like it now.

The building is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but the service and hospitality fell far below expectations. When we asked the receptionist what was happening after being told to sit and wait, she was rude and gave no explanation. The rooms weren't clean to even a basic standard, and the drinking glasses were dirty. The food was poor and there were flies. The bathroom conditions were awful. We had booked six nights, but stayed only one because it was dark and unsafe to leave then. We left the next morning. A very disappointing experience, and I wouldn't recommend this place.

The rooms were clean and spacious, and the beachfront setting is lovely. Beyond that, my high season stay at Sun N Sand Kikambala felt neglected and empty. The beach was dirty, the large pool was poorly maintained, there was no entertainment or poolside service, and the staff seemed demotivated. There were no in-room basics like a kettle, water, tea, or coffee, and Wi-Fi didn't work at all. The food was very basic with the same menu every day, and soft drink choices were limited. Guests should also be told ahead of time that the hotel doesn't serve alcohol. The gift shop was more like a local kiosk, with basic clothing and no souvenirs. Even the ice cream came in just two flavours. Nothing about the stay was memorable or enjoyable. It was the most boring hotel I've stayed at, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The rooms are beautiful and the place has plenty of potential, but it needs serious attention. The lift and stairwells smell, and the pools are dirty and murky. Service is slow too, so if your AC breaks, expect hours before help arrives. The new management seems to be doing its best to run the place into the ground. They don't sell alcohol on site, something I wish I'd known before booking. Please clean the place up and sell people alcohol.
