After two years here, I expected only a little wear and tear, and I returned the place in a condition that shouldn't justify keeping any of my $750 deposit. I paid the landowner $750 USD a month, thousands imln USD in total over the months, and stayed despite the many problems and advantages because I made compromises. I told the landowner today that I'm leaving, and now it seems to me she wants to keep part of the deposit. She's relying on wording I added to the contract myself, as a non-lawyer, after the original said something like “deposit to be returned if place is returned in good state.” I added something like “and not better than the state it was in before.” The place wasn't in the best condition, but she now says that means it must be returned to its exact previous state, including painting and other repairs if needed. I'll keep sharing updates about this and other issues, along with more photos, so people know what to expect. If you want some peace and quiet away from busy Nairobi center, this is a good fit. It's in a quiet, secluded area and has a guard.

It felt like a home away from home, so peaceful. The staff were fun, helpful, and so welcoming, and the food was DELICIOUS!

Such a nice place. I've been there.
