La Maison Royale

The staff were friendly and attentive, but in the bar and restaurant they were often in the kitchen instead of at their station when customers arrived. The hotel itself is good, though it could use some sprucing up.

The room had some lovely details, including soundproof walls, air conditioning, a view, a heated shower, bidet faucet, towels, shower gel, bar soap, body cream, shampoo, and a vanity kit with toothbrush. Housekeeping was prompt and did a very good job every day, and breakfast had a daily range of tasty continental and intercontinental options. There’s also a well-equipped rooftop gym, an icy pool with a spa, and a restaurant on site. The location is next to Alkali police station, with good roads nearby. My previous reservation was cancelled on the day I arrived, so this last-minute booking turned out to be a great alternative to the Airbnb. Check-in was seamless, I got WiFi and went straight to my room. Bolt from the airport was about 560 Ksh, and paying in dollars with my Nigerian Visa card was convenient. The room rate with breakfast for two was about 229 Ksh, around 339,000 naira for five nights, which felt like an incredible steal. The DSTV decoder couldn’t be repaired and still hasn’t been, and the shower and toilet faucet were a bit faulty. Even so, I absolutely loved the stay and would love to have a baecation here sometime soon. I highly recommend it.

I was there for two nights, and the front desk and restaurant/bar staff were really helpful. They even let us leave our bags there for a few hours before we headed to our flight, which I appreciated. I’d definitely recommend this hotel if you’re in Nairobi.

The service was excellent, and the rooms I stayed in felt almost luxurious. It’s a perfect place to stay in Nairobi, close to good restaurants and sights.
