Oakwood Hotel

I first found Oakwood nearly 20 years ago, and it’s remained my Nairobi base ever since. I’ve been visiting Kenya for 45 years, and nowhere else has earned that kind of loyalty from me. Friends I’ve brought along have started using it as their base too. The central business district location is excellent for the price, which is less than a quarter of what the nearby big-name hotels charge. The rooms aren’t comparable to those hotels, but they’re clean and comfortable. The front desk team, waiters, and cleaning staff are all friendly and helpful, and they’ll go the extra mile. I’ve never had a security problem during all my stays. Parking can be awkward because the hotel faces busy Kimathi st. If you arrive by taxi with luggage, let the watchman at the entrance know, and he’ll meet you in the alley behind the hotel to help. I highly recommend it. Give it a try!

You can walk from The Oakwood to shops, a Maasai market, and a good grocery store. The hotel is affordable, quiet, and comfortable, with friendly staff, good service, and a great breakfast. I’d recommend it for either a short visit or a longer stay in Nairobi.

I really enjoyed staying here. The suite was spacious and nice, and housekeeping did a good job. Breakfast was good too, though vegetarians won’t find much variety. For stays over two weeks, they provide a welcome gift with things like a soft drink, cornflakes, crisps, and a Lotus powder pack. I can’t remember everything that was included.

The food was worth the wait. It’s made fresh to order by the chef, so service can take a little while, and the menu is à la carte. Staff are courteous, and it’s a nice spot to sit and talk. The place is quiet and feels like a hidden gem, with good food and an 80s atmosphere. It’s quite historic, right down to the old lifts you see in movies. It feels like a four-star hotel, and it’s open 24 hours ❤️❤️❤️❤️.
