We arrived at Raya Hotel around 2 am last year, my friend and I, because our flight was late and our Airbnb check-in wasn't until 10 am. The airport taxi brought us there. They first asked $80 for a few hours of sleep. I thought that was a rip-off: a typical 4 or 5 star Airbnb in Westlands with a pool, restaurant, and fitness center costs $60-80 a day for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment, and a one-bedroom is $40/ daily. When I questioned the price, they dropped it to $60, even though we only needed to rest for a few hours. We were tired and desperate tourists, and it felt like they took advantage of that. We checked out at 6:30 am and waited at our Airbnb. The sheets were stained, there was no toilet paper, and the CBD location right on the main road felt sketchy at night. I don’t recommend the place. I was scammed on my first day in Kenya, and I’m sure they pocketed about $30 from the $60 charge, since I don’t think this hotel should cost more than $30 per night. We stayed on or about October 21, 2024, if management wants to confirm it.

Room service was attentive, and I was glad to have a hot shower since Nairobi gets cold. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, but the beds are quite low. The net looks like it’s been there for a while.

Right in the CBD, so the location is excellent. The rooms are adequate if you’re not fussy, but they could use renovation. There’s a restaurant with good food at good rates, too. A decent choice for a short stay.

Everyone was welcoming, and the staff made a great impression. The front desk women were very professional, friendly, and communicative. Security were friendly and professional as well, and helped carry our awkward bike boxes and luggage up to our rooms while we were on a cycling tour. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious and varied each day, so we didn’t get bored with it. The kitchen is near the rooms and works late, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. That’s about the only thing I’d mention. I’d absolutely stay again. Thank you so much!
