Shella Royal House

Since my last visit, the place has been renovated and is now much prettier and more comfortable. Sanitation has definitely improved, and the staff were incredibly friendly. It was so worth it!

Mr Omar and Ms Palina were kind and understanding. We arrived as a couple, but in the end chose something more romantic because the Suite wasn’t quite what we’d hoped for. The house itself is original and clean, with spectacular views from the terrace. Everyone was friendly, and I’d definitely recommend it to international travelers.

The views are great and I liked nearly everything about the place, which is why this gets two stars instead of the one I was considering. I stayed two nights and there was loud music from other guests until after 2:30 in the morning. Management didn’t seem to be around at night to deal with the nonstop partying. Then at 6am the mosque loudspeaker, which seems to point straight at the hotel, is impossible to miss. It’s a lovely place, and management otherwise seemed wonderful, but there was less than zero chance of getting sleep.

I’ve stayed at the Bash House, where Omar Awadh has always made me feel comfortable. The staff are dedicated and the service is incredible. Breakfast is great, and they’ll provide meals if you ask. The rooftop and upper-floor views are beautiful. This is definitely my number one choice for staying in Lamu.
