From the first inquiry to our last game drive ending at the airstrip, the Kicheche team made us feel like we’d received a big hug. Milcah was noticeably nicer than anyone at the other camps we contacted. We’ll be back to Kicheche Bush Olare camp, and may try another of their camps on the same trip. We loved the communal dinners, with plenty of laughter and travel stories over Chardonnay and amarula. The hospitality was incredible. Everyone remembered our names, food allergies were catered for with what felt like a whole menu made just for us, and there were thoughtful comforts like hot water bottles in the cars and in bed. The tents were extremely comfortable, with amazing views and a hammock. They’re completely off grid, which is impressive. Zebras came right up close to our tent during the day. Every meal was fresh and varied, and a highlight. The wines and other drinks were great too. Wildlife was another standout: we saw more lions than anywhere else we’ve been, even more than in sabi sands in Kruger. We also saw our first cheetahs, twice on separate drives. Our guide Julius was amazing. We clicked right away, he knew everything, and positioned the car so well for photos. We were lucky to get a private car even though we hadn’t booked one, because it was low season. We especially loved Mara Olare conservancy. There’s a limit of five cars at a sighting, but most of the time we were alone or had at most three cars. We could see Mara national park, where in low season we saw 12-15 cars around a lion 😅. We preferred this experience, which also felt more respectful to the animals. So many people made the trip special. Thank you to Julius, Dido, Eva, Richard, Kennedy, and all the others whose names we haven’t learned yet.

Conversations around the fire, group dinners, and sundowners were unforgettable, as were the breakfasts. Fresh juices and fruit, toasted granola with nuts, creamy yogurt, and a choice of scotch eggs, chapatti with eggs, or pancakes. Shall I go on? Just AMAZING! The Bush Camp was extraordinary, with sustainability values, game rides, attention to detail, wonderful food, and kind, friendly people all at a very high standard. Even the little shop was lovely, with fairtrade products. Didi joined us for dinner and shared context about the Mara and its wildlife, and our masai guide Patrick knew so much about animal behaviour and protected the environment so consciously. Thanks to Daniel, Kennedy, and the wonderful masai people who were always so kind. The cook made us such five-star meals. I felt completely spoilt and will recommend you forever.

We’d happily return to Kicheche to relive the magic. The wildlife, caring service, and delicious food made our honeymoon a once-in-a-lifetime experience. My wife and I had dreamed of going on safari for a long time but never found the time, so we wholeheartedly recommend this camp, especially if you’re unsure about taking the plunge. The conservancy next to the national park is home to some of the most luxurious safari brands. It has clear advantages over visiting only the park: you can go off road for a more immersive experience, and the area is small enough to feel intimate while still giving you new things to discover each day. The Kicheche staff exceeded expectations, even by Kenyan standards. Their warmth and attention made us feel cared for. They remembered our preferences, like bringing us a cold Coke at lunch. Anita, the camp manager, brought years of experience to the role. Her stories around the fire were a highlight, and she also took a genuine interest in hearing about our safari. Food was another standout. Meals were fresh, varied, and thoughtfully prepared, and despite the rich options we had no digestive issues, which speaks to the ingredients and preparation. Thanks to the dedicated team and our excellent guide for memories we’ll treasure.

Our guide and driver knew exactly how to position us for photos and was incredibly kind to our children. We had the most amazing three nights at Kicheche Bush Olare in February. The beautiful accommodation, wonderful staff, and delicious food made the whole stay magical from start to finish. Asante sana, Kicheche!

The conservancy drives were a real highlight. The guides were top notch, and we saw rare sights, including lions hunting and another pride enjoying a kill, plus baby giraffes, thousands of zebra and gazelles, and Larry the Lonesome Topi keeping watch over his territory. It was a one-of-a-kind trip. The tents are luxurious camping at its finest, with exquisite dining and all beverages included, including fine wines and top-shelf liquor. The bartender is a gin master.
