Sofia International Hotel

The food is the main reason I’d come back. It tasted fresh, each dish was full of flavor, and the presentation was done with real care. Service was fast and professional too, with friendly, respectful staff who kept smiling and made me feel welcome. The restaurant feels both comfortable and luxurious. It’s clean throughout, with elegant modern decor, a lovely view, and calm, enjoyable music. You can see the attention to detail everywhere. It seems suited to families, couples, or business meetings. For me, this is the best place in Bishkek, and it exceeded every expectation. I’d give it 900 stars without hesitation and highly recommend it to tourists looking for a great meal.

Breakfast was good, with a decent selection, and the breakfast team were attentive. Housekeeping also did a great job, especially with the details during turndown. Some reception staff helped with taxi arrangements to the Christmas Village and suggested places to visit with my daughter. Those good moments stood out because service elsewhere was so inconsistent. I was there four nights, three booked through Holiday Factory and the last booked directly after my flight was cancelled. We could have extended another four days, but moved to another hotel for a more comfortable and consistent stay. The property and location are good, but the service didn’t feel up to the 4-5 star standards it claims. A few staff went out of their way to help; others were impolite and lacked basic hospitality. Management needs to address that. I’d hoped to use the spa, but found out at check-in that spa services weren’t available. I didn’t make an issue of it, though those amenities are generally expected at a hotel marketed as 5-star, especially at a premium price. My daughter wanted to stay in the room, and in-room dining wasn’t available either. When my phone stopped working, I urgently needed to make an international call. Reception said it wasn’t possible. I asked how a hotel claiming 5-star standards couldn’t provide that basic facility, and was rudely told the hotel was actually 4-star and I should “check with Holiday Factory, not with him.” The dismissive tone felt unprofessional. The room got extremely hot, so I called reception and an engineer came up. He entered without greeting me, spoke only in Russian, and raised his voice. I tried using Google Translate to communicate in English, but he was still rude and left without fixing it. I felt like I was asking for a favor instead of a paid service. When I called reception again, they told me to leave the window open because the AC wasn’t working. That wasn’t an acceptable solution. For a hotel claiming 5-star standards, basic amenities and, more importantly, basic respect and hospitality were missing. Facilities can sometimes be forgiven, but disrespect and unprofessional behavior can’t. It wasn’t worth the price.

There was a bad smell in the room as soon as we walked in, completely unacceptable. When we asked to move, the receptionist refused and said, “all rooms are the same.” Only after the manager arrived did she agree to change it. The attitude was unprofessional, and nobody seemed to care about the time and trouble this caused us. We also noticed what looked like unfair price manipulation. This was a terrible experience, not worth the money, and I’ll never return.

Housekeeping was a real plus. Cleaning is available on demand around the clock: switch on the request by the door when you leave, and they promptly clean, make the bed, replace towels, replenish supplies, and refill water. They even gave us more than the standard 2 liters a day without being asked. The hotel is centrally located, and rooms on one side have spectacular views of frozen, glaciered mountains. There are smaller comfortable rooms and deluxe ones with bathtubs and office workstations. The elevators often seemed busy, and breakfast had a good selection but didn’t seem to be included. Staff responded quickly to calls and questions, though the language barrier was noticeable. Some staff seemed uncomfortable or unwelcoming when communicating in English. There was no room service for meals, but food delivery apps brought orders to the room door. The Korean restaurant on the 15th floor was handy too. My stay at Sofia International Hotel was very enjoyable overall, with only minor issues that didn’t have much effect. The service was excellent.
