International Hotel

It's an average, no-frills hotel at a low price, and acceptably clean. The staff helped when we asked, though they weren't especially attentive. We had trouble getting hot water from the taps. Someone came to help, but both rooms we rented had cold water on both nights.

I stayed for a week and enjoyed it. The hotel has charming carved furniture and dark wood walls, and the facilities are nice and all work. Like most hotels in Cambodia, it relies on solar hot water, so you only get hot water in the afternoon on sunny days. That was fine by me, since cold showers suit the equatorial heat.

The room smelled bad and the air conditioning wasn't working when we checked in. It took a lot of explaining before they got it going, but it still wasn't cold. We were moved to a second room where the AC rattled loudly, then a third room that was much better, all on the same night. In the morning there was no hot water. Four hours later someone came to check, then spent two hours trying and failing to fix it. We lost half the day. We said we weren't happy and wanted some kind of refund while we found another hotel. Communicating was very difficult, and we had to use Google translation. The receptionist got angry and yelled in their language before calling the manager. She spoke a little English and was rude on the phone. She said we could leave but wouldn't get a refund, adding, "this is Cambodia, not Europe. We are poor country no refund for you. If you don't like then don't book this hotel" before hanging up. The next morning someone came to fix the hot water. Then they said we'd have to pay extra for changing rooms, which we didn't. It was very hard to communicate while frustrated and using Google translation. No one there spoke English at all, and this was one of the worst hotels and managers I've ever dealt with. Please don't book here, it will ruin your holiday. BE AWARE

I prepaid for this hotel because I wanted the large room and balcony or terrace it advertised, and both were confirmed. When we arrived, they told us, 'so sorry, we are full,' and put us in a small room without a balcony. They showed little concern or empathy. They reluctantly offered a 10% discount, which felt insulting and wasn't good enough. I had to argue for what we'd already paid for, making our stay worse. We lost out, while the hotel may have gained by overbooking and counting on us to accept a quick, low-effort fix. It failed at the one job it had. Be warned!
