The prices were much lower than we expected, while the quality was much higher. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and the setting was wonderful. We rented a kayak for a day to see the green cathedral, then watched the sunset at the Champa lodge. Highly recommended. We’ll stay overnight as soon as we can.

A good spot for kayaking, though I found it hard to know where to go. Some clearer directions or signs would help, especially for someone paddling alone, since it could be dangerous when the route isn’t clear.

We didn’t feel welcome here, and the rooms were too small for five people. Only one staff member was friendly; the others seemed uninterested. I’d rent kayaks here, but at the moment I wouldn’t stay with a family.

The dogs will probably adopt you before you leave. They’re cute, but good luck convincing them you don’t have snacks. You may also hear morning prayers from the nearby mosque/temple, so this isn’t a quiet place. There aren’t shops or restaurants within walking distance, either. It’s remote, which is part of the appeal and also the tradeoff. Inside Champa Lodge, the room was huge, clean, and well maintained despite the jungle setting. The bathroom didn’t have that constant damp smell, the bed was comfortable, and the towels were properly big. Each evening, a staff member quietly lit a mosquito coil, which was a thoughtful touch. The restaurant was a real surprise, with food good enough to make me put off kayaking for another plate. Kayaks and boats are available for river trips, whether you want to paddle or just drift around with a friend. The grounds have trees everywhere, stilt houses, and kayaks scattered about. Getting there is less inviting: the dusty dirt road looks like it belongs in a horror movie. Once you’re in, though, it’s a hidden riverside spot with plenty of jungle character.

We didn’t stay overnight, though the place looked beautiful. Another family joined us, and together we hired two electric catamarans for a river cruise. The route was great and clearly marked, which made it a fantastic first experience for us. It cost $15.00 USD each for the two boats at $10.00 PHR. There are bars and other stops along the river for a drink or a coconut. My daughters loved it, and we’ll definitely be back. 😁
