The family who own Piphub Thmey Guesthouse are wonderful, and they’re looking for ways to keep improving the place. The rooms have fresh paint and are very clean. Bathrooms have been remodeled with marble floors and walls, which gives them a classy touch. For $5 a day you can rent a motorbike and easily reach the old bridge, now closed to cars, that takes you into the riverfront area with bars and restaurants. There’s a lovely place to relax upstairs, with a large patio overlooking town and Bokor mountain. The owner may put a bar there. This place has loads of potential and is still a work in progress, but don’t let that put you off booking. At $8, it’s a steal. I’m looking forward to coming back to see how it’s coming along. Thanks for a nice stay, I’ll return!

It’s a new building, and both the rooms and bedsheets were clean. There’s a mosquito net on the window, and the shower only has cold water. I wasn’t given any free bottled water during my four days there. Staff understood only a few words of English, and the TV worked, but the international channels were very blurry. Tiny ants were all over the room and bathroom, guarding their territory, time for some poison ;)

I booked this guesthouse on booking.com and called ahead before traveling there. I also messaged to check that rooms were available, and they said yes. But after I rode my motorbike there, reception told me they’d already given the rooms to other people. Why accept an online booking if there’s no room? I had a bad experience at Pipthmey guest house in Kampot city, and I don’t advise anyone to go there in case the same thing happens to them.

The room was nice and clean, and it’s about 10 minutes from the city center. There’s no reception, so you have to find the owner when you arrive. The shower is cold water only.

For $8, the room was okay, but it gets extra hot. The doors don't lock, and every key seems to open every door, like at many hotels in Cambodia.
