The room condition was quite poor: it was dirty, the sheets were dirty, and it was never cleaned during our stay. It badly needs maintenance. Such a pity, because the property itself is really nice, with a lovely patio and garden. Dave met us at the pier and was very friendly. He always replied promptly to my messages, and they provide free filtered water.
We couldn’t stay because the guesthouse was full, but they showed us around, and we took a day tour with Jay, one of the owners. She showed us all around the extremely charming village and explained everything we needed to know. She’s a great source of information! The Azure is a charming little guesthouse, with a beautifully colored wooden house and lovely lush flowers and plants all around. Jay also runs a very successful tour company, Adventure Travel, offering tours around the island and across the country. She has helped many of the tour groups we’ve sent down there. Strongly recommend The Azure ♥️
You can snorkel almost from the doorstep, just a few steps from the west side of the island. M'Pai Bay is full of cool little restaurants run by locals and groovy expats. If you want a laid-back, rustic Cambodian island stay away from the tourist traps, I highly recommend spending a few nights at Azure M'Pai Bay. The room was spacious, clean, and had excellent air-conditioning, plus a gorgeous, comfortable bed and bedding. The facilities are basic, which was exactly what I wanted for the price. They freshen up the room when asked and provide clean towels on request. It’s a fabulous guest house on chill M'Pai Bay Island, about a 5-10 minute walk from the pier. It was a bit hard to find at first because there’s no sign, but luckily I had a SIM card and could contact Jay. She came right out to greet me, and the Google Maps link they sent helped me find the place.
We stayed a few days with family and friends. The price was affordable, the manager was welcoming and flexible, and letting us check out late was especially helpful. When problems came up, the manager responded quickly. One evening a toilet pipe came loose and flooded the room, but a technician was sent promptly to fix it. The bed was comfortable, too. The stay was mixed overall because the guesthouse needs significant maintenance. Some door handles were coming off, the rooms were particularly dirty, and the soap wasn’t replaced. The property’s condition didn’t match the photos online. With better upkeep and attention to cleanliness, it could be much more enjoyable.
Jay & Dave are a lovely couple, and the Azure offers a little island luxury. The rooms have great AC and hot showers. It’s right in the centre of the village, next to great snorkelling spots and the best sunset views in M'pai Bay.
