Mangrove Beach Bungalows

It’s very quiet and has a great feel, though the accommodation itself is quite basic. I liked it best for taking it easy in the mornings, evenings, or at night. Beach lovers may be disappointed, and there was quite a lot of rubbish along the beach stretch towards popular places like Sunset Beach and Lazy Beach.

The restaurant food was enjoyable and the people seemed nice, though I often felt like I was imposing. There are cats and dogs all over the place doing their own thing, so if that makes you uncomfortable, I’d choose somewhere else. The hotel is far down the beach, at least a 30-minute walk from Eden pier. My room was cute and had a beachy feel, but the bathroom was large and moldy, with only a bucket and cold shower for washing. The beaches in front looked amazing, but were covered in rubbish. I spent 30 minutes picking up about 10 kg of trash. I ended up checking out in the middle of the night after a gecko got into my room. They killed it, and the whole situation felt so off that I left. The place could have been amazing, but it badly needs more care, which I guess explains the price. I’d pay a little more to stay somewhere more decent.

There were mosquitoes everywhere, and later cockroaches came out of the shower drain. The bedroom door wouldn’t lock from either side, and the windows couldn’t be opened. Gaps in the floorboards let mosquitoes in, which made that even more frustrating. We booked a more deluxe room hoping it would be nicer. We knew it might not be amazing because it was cheap, but it smelled bad and musty as soon as we walked in. Staff lit a candle when we entered. The bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned, with black and grey water splashes all over the sink. The shower drain didn’t work properly and smelled foul, and the bathroom had a stale urine odor whenever the toilet was flushed. Honestly, don’t stay here.

It’s not a fancy resort, but it’s a lovely, laid-back place to unwind away from the main island, and I’d recommend it. Our beachfront bungalow had a balcony, a good shower, and a good toilet. The food was great and the staff were lovely. I can’t understand why the rating is so low.
