Happy Elephant Bungalows

The receptionist was lovely, and the location is good. A hot shower was a plus, too. The bathrooms are worn and could really use a thorough clean. It’s a budget place in Asia, so “deluxe” doesn’t necessarily mean what you might expect.

The owners were friendly and welcoming, and the convenient Koh Touch location worked well for us. Our room was small but decent, with an electric kettle and reliable hot water. We appreciated that it was pet friendly. There was loud music from nearby bars at night, so bring earplugs if you’re sensitive to noise. A good stay overall.

The staff were consistently warm and professional, and the room was clean and well maintained when we arrived. The property is handy for the main port, markets, restaurants, shops, and cafes. But our reserved “sea view” room faced a residential area behind the hotel. During our two-night stay, housekeeping never cleaned the room or replenished water, coffee, or dental kits. The reception desk was unattended on several occasions, so we bought our own supplies and handled the rubbish ourselves. Basic toiletries like shower gel and shampoo weren’t provided either. There were maintenance problems in the bathroom: the sink leaked onto the floor, and the rusty showerhead kept leaking after use and needs replacing. Koh Rong’s natural beauty still made for an enjoyable vacation, but the hotel’s service and upkeep were a real disappointment. I’d suggest looking at other accommodation nearby.

We checked out early and gave up two more nights in the deluxe room after repeated water outages. On the first night there was no water at all, and we went to bed dirty because nobody answered us. It happened again the following night and took about three hours to fix. We weren’t offered fair compensation for the inconvenience. The owner was rude, said goodbye, and gave us nothing back. He said we were the only ones complaining, but even if it affected just one room, they should refund us. Be careful, other hotels are much better. Don’t come to this hostel.
