Silver Dolphin Guesthouse

The river views were lovely, and it’s close to the town centre for shops and restaurants. We stayed two nights and felt it was good value. The room was basic, as expected for the price, with air con and useful guest WiFi, though there was mould on the walls and ants on the floor. Hot shower, basin, and a decent toilet with a bidet. The lady working there was friendly, polite, and helpful. We booked the dolphin kayaking trip through her. Thanks for having us 🙏

The family running this place are very nice, which makes it difficult to write this, but I hope they take the criticism seriously. The top room had a sewage smell, mould on the ceiling, and lots of mosquitoes. I can’t speak for the other rooms, but the guesthouse really needs a deep clean and the smell needs sorting out. Their minibus service was more of a hassle than expected, since the driver stops to collect packages and other passengers along the way. They don’t explain that clearly. There’s a minibus station about 1 km away, and I’d suggest going there instead.

My kayak was full of piss, like someone had peed in it, and I was left sitting in it for the whole three-hour dolphin trip. The guide also took off and didn’t wait for us. The day before, he’d shown me a photo of a man who had died on the tour from a heart attack. I’m a regular customer from Canada, not a local guide, and this was very, very bad. Don’t go with this company unless you want to sit in pee for three hours. Do not go with them ever.

The staff wouldn’t give our driver a room when he arrived, despite our confirmed booking at Silver Dolphin Guesthouse. They said there was no booking on record, then claimed the room wasn’t clean and had no amenities, without offering any other solution. With every other hotel nearby full, he was left without anywhere to stay. This could have been avoided and shows a serious lack of professionalism and reliability. Don’t book here if you expect a confirmed reservation to be honored.
