Capri by Fraser, Phnom Penh

The rooms and location are things I like about this hotel, and my first stay on the 13th floor was great. This second visit was less pleasant: at 5:30 AM, noise from chairs and tables being moved on the 14th floor above woke me up. It was loud enough to interrupt my sleep, and the sound insulation between those floors was a problem this time.

The room was smaller than I expected, and I’m very doubtful it was the advertised 28m2 on Trip.com. Still, it was well equipped: the Deluxe room had a mini fridge, kettle, the usual amenities, and a bidet in the bathroom. The rates seemed fair for a good hotel. There are two jacuzzi pools on the top floor with a lovely city view. The hotel is tall, 16 floors, but compact, with about eight rooms on each floor. A small gym and laundry on the third floor seemed to be open around the clock. Getting around was easy, with the riverside and royal palace under 10 minutes away by tuktuk or taxi. Lots of places to eat are within a five minute walk, and Super Duper, a 24 hour supermarket, is less than a 10 minute walk away. The receptionist provided excellent service and spoke decent English.

I was in town for a two night business trip and had a really pleasant stay. Breakfast had a decent range, simple but satisfying for starting the day. My room was clean, comfortable, and had the essentials, including an iron set. I’d happily recommend the hotel to business travelers.

I slept comfortably and the place was clean, so the stay was good overall. The breakfast choices could be better, perhaps because it’s a smaller hotel. I tried the beef noodle soup, but the beef wasn’t great.
