Royal Guest House

I ended up staying three extra weeks because the staff at Royal Guesthouse were so welcoming and accommodating. Monica at the front desk was especially helpful with my situation. The place isn’t a five-star hotel, but they’ll go out of their way to address your needs or concerns. It’s also in a really convenient area.

The entrance has big, comfy seats that are nice for relaxing with a few drinks in the evening. There’s a laundry next door run by the hotel, which is handy, though it costs a bit more than other places. My room stayed cool with the aircon, and it was pretty clean. They did miss changing the toilet roll and emptying the bins, but that wasn’t a big deal since those things are cheap to get yourself. Ricky works nights and takes good care of the hotel. He’s American and knows a lot about music, so if you’re into that you can end up chatting with him for ages.

For $15 a night, I found this basic guesthouse in Phnom Penh to be good value. The room was clean, and the owners were around if I needed anything, though I didn’t. If you’re travelling on a tight budget, Royal Guest House is worth a look.

I booked at the guesthouse itself and got quick service. The room was neat and clean, and Central Market, the riverside, and the Royal Palace were all within walking distance. I’ll definitely return.
