Safari Hotel

I’ve stayed at Safari Hotel every time I’ve visited Phnom Penh, including for extended stays, and I highly recommend it. Central Market is just two blocks away, and Wat Phnom, several banks, and other places are within walking distance. The staff are friendly, resourceful, and helpful. The restaurant serves a tasty mix of Khmer and Western food. Rooms are nice, and some balconies have a great view of the Phnom Penh cityscape.

The rooms are large and clean for a fairly low price, though they’re basic, as are the bathrooms. Many have a roomy balcony and sliding glass doors that let in plenty of light. The beds are reasonably modern and the furniture is sparse. The food is good too. I’ve ordered room service many times, and the meals have all been good and reasonably priced. Anything that keeps you off the toilet is always a plus.

You can get a reasonable price if you haggle. A room with two beds was $25 at first, but I got it down to $20 per night.

The location near Central Market is handy, and it felt like good value. Our room had a big bed, air conditioning, a TV and refrigerator. Room service was available, the staff were friendly, and they cleaned every day. Hot showers and a sit-down European toilet, no squat toilet.
