Sovanna II Restaurant in Phnom Penh was lively and welcoming, and it seems well suited to groups of all sizes. The staff were friendly, quick, and helpful, especially for anyone new to Cambodian food. The beef with red ants was a surprisingly tasty local specialty, and I also really liked the grilled beef with prahok sauce. The seafood platter was fresh and well seasoned; fried rice and stir-fried vegetables rounded out the meal nicely. Try the salt-pepper-lime sauce too, it lifted every bite for me. Prices felt reasonable for the quality. A good spot to explore Khmer flavors.

There’s plenty of room to sit inside, and the staff were helpful with us as foreigners. This was my first meal in Cambodia, and it made for a really good introduction to the local food. The grilled beef with prahok sauce is a must, and I’d say the beef with red ants is worth trying too. It has a distinctive taste but was really tasty. I’d happily come back.
