Velkommen Guesthouse - Phnom Penh

Simon arranged an airport pickup, and even though my flight was delayed the driver was waiting with my name on a sign. He spoke excellent English and was friendly and safe. After a long flight, that was much better than the airport information desk’s advice about the Riel 1,700 bus: walk 1 km out of the airport and sometimes wait up to two hours. Simon really looks after guests and gives lots of local advice. The location is excellent, a short walk to Riverside and Street 136, with reliable laundry opposite.

The place has a really homey feel, and I met a lot of people there. Staff were always smiling, attentive and very accommodating. They offer food at very good prices, and can arrange bus bookings and transfers to destinations in Cambodia and neighboring countries at very low prices. It’s right beside Riverside Park, with a laundry and massage place across the street. This is the best guesthouse I’ve stayed at in Phnom Penh, and I’d recommend it for a night or several. I stayed almost two weeks after booking online because of unexpected problems. I’m almost blind, but I saw Owner Simon charge my debit card twice, once on another device that printed a receipt. On my last day he kept $15 and kicked me out, saying that a towel was ruined when a can of beer fell over and I put the towel on the spill. He said a replacement cost $12. The next day I demanded either a refund or the damaged towel, and got neither. The Wi-Fi was slow. I stopped paying by VISA because he always added a fee or tax. My room was comfortable, but I had to beg to get it cleaned every other day. Because of my vision problems, Simon asked if he could give his place a 5 Star rating here, so I let him access and use this account.

Good food, cheap drinks and a nice vibe. The management is awesome, and Simon is probably at the bar, so ask for him. If you’re by the river in PP, I’d recommend stopping in.
