Chhouy Vathna Angkor Boutique

For the price, this three-star boutique hotel is fantastic. It’s in a great location, and we were lucky to get a room with a balcony. The room was very comfortable and cleaned daily, just remember to leave your key at reception. The staff were cheerful, friendly, and helpful. You couldn’t wish for nicer people. I’d highly recommend it.

I picked this hotel because it offered a soft mattress, which is unusual in the East, and stayed in room 10. There are also rooms with hard mattresses. The blackout curtains kept almost all light out, which was a nice Western-style comfort. It’s centrally located, but most rooms are quiet, and the pool has both sunny and shaded spots for a break from the unbearable heat. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. There were drawbacks too. Several things in the room and bathroom were deteriorating, and small ants and a gecko got into the room. The tiny bathroom gets soaked by the shower, including the toilet paper. During my five-day stay the air conditioning broke twice, so I barely slept on those nights. The owner tried to help, but it wasn’t enough. Once I was offered a room with a hard bed, and the other time a fan.

The location worked well for us, about a 15-minute walk to Pub Street and nearby cafes. During the hot season they even gave us free bottles of water. The staff were super friendly and accommodated all our requests and questions. Thanks to Neath for being so welcoming and always available as our point of contact. A comfortable hotel with wonderful staff, highly recommended for future visitors.

There are several lovely restaurants nearby with good food at reasonable prices. The hotel itself is clean and tidy, and well located. It’s far enough from the noise around Pub Street, but still an easy walk. The rooms are clean and functional, with air conditioning, which is a must. The beds were fine and on the firmer side, which suits me. We didn’t use the pool, but it looks well worth a dip in the heat. One small annoyance, the bathroom dispensers had no body wash or shampoo.
