I usually stay at Tree Hotel for around $20 a night, and everything there is fabulous. I only tried somewhere else because I wanted a movie night. Tree Hotel doesn't equip its rooms for that, so I booked Damrei. Big mistake. The hotel itself is decent, but the bed may have been the most uncomfortable on earth. For context, I usually fall asleep at the dentist. At $35 a night, that wasn't what I expected. Even Onederz hostel's $6 bedding is much better. I had booked two nights and asked reception if I could switch rooms. The receptionist immediately offered a mattress topper without seeming surprised, which made me think this was a known and fixable problem. There wasn't even a small apology. In the end the bed was still very uncomfortable, uneven, with holes here and there. I couldn't make sense of it and gave up. At checkout I explained how I felt, and was told the owner was currently equipping new rooms. Good! Still, not one apology, ever. A simple room change probably could have solved it, but apparently that wasn't in their plan. I left speechless. The TV didn't work when I arrived either. Thankfully, the nice night shift receptionist got it going after 30 minutes, but only cable channels were available. No basic smart TV, so no Netflix. Room 116

The quiet pool was a nice place to unwind after sightseeing, and our room was tidied perfectly every day. It was easy to reach town and Pub Street, about a 10-minute walk or a quick tuktuk ride. Staff were warm and helped arrange our Angkor wat tour. Breakfast had a generous buffet with fruit and local dishes, plus made-to-order omelettes or delicious noodles in broth. There isn't really an evening hangout since there's no restaurant or pool bar, but we liked the peaceful feel.

They arranged a driver for Angkor Wat when we asked, and he was great. The staff were so welcoming and polite, and even upgraded my room at no charge. The whole place felt peaceful and relaxing. We had a perfect experience.

The pool was well cared for, and the staff were kind. My room was nice, with a balcony, and the hotel was pretty empty. It's an easy walk into town, with Baton supermarket down the street and some nice cafes nearby.

The two ladies serving breakfast were wonderful, and the food was delicious. It was the best breakfast service we had on our travels through Southeast Asia. We were eight people, four adults and four teenagers from New Zealand, and the manager made us feel welcome and looked after us. They also arranged transport to a fishing village at a great price. The pool was good, though we were disappointed the pool bar wasn't open. This hotel was perfect for us, and we'd highly recommend it.
