Freedom Hotel

After twenty years of coming here, I can’t say the hotel has changed much, except the pool used to be okay and now it isn’t. The rooms feel dated and worn, with very basic amenities. The hot water pot is missing, the fridge didn’t work, and the TV remote was broken. I might suggest it to a backpacker on a tight budget, but Siem Reap has other hotels at the same price that offer much more. I won’t be staying at Freedom again.

The room was cleaned when I asked, and surprisingly the old air conditioner and refrigerator still worked. But the hotel is worn out, with only the bare minimum service. The bedsheet had stains, and the bathroom was horrendous. I was glad I’d brought my own slippers. The pool was disgusting, and there were spiderwebs and mold everywhere. I didn’t mind the old fixtures, but the place needs a proper cleaning. I was afraid to look up at the ceiling.

The service was decent, though a bit slow. The room was only about a 6/10 for cleanliness, and most of the rooms seem kind of busted. The AC often doesn’t work properly, so a room at this price isn’t worth it.

The price was affordable, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The location is good, just a short walk to the market, yet there are better hotels to choose from. The restaurant was short-staffed. We waited over 40 minutes and got nothing, even though it was nearly empty when we arrived. By the time it filled up, the waitress was serving people who had just come in instead of those of us already waiting. My sister managed to get something, but she said it wasn’t very good. Our room was old and had cobwebs on the bedside lamp. The fridge door wouldn’t close, and the old AC made it possible to sleep at the lowest temperature without even using the thin blanket. The TV looked like an early 90s model. The uncovered space above the bath made the bathroom feel really scary, as you could see in the pictures.
