Khmere Maison D'Angkor

Khmere Maison made my stay really pleasant. My dorm was always very clean, the beds were made each day and there was hot water. It’s a peaceful spot, far enough from Pub Street for quiet but still just a quick tuk-tuk ride away. The staff were so sweet and accommodating, and could call a tuk-tuk driver when I needed one without overcharging me. A lovely stay, especially for travellers wanting a quiet, jungle-like feel near Angkor Wat.

If you’re Cambodian, I’d say don’t go there. The owner kept bragging that serving foreign guests was better because they paid more and left reviews on Agoda and elsewhere. We booked a room for four and were first told that would be fine. When we arrived, she gave our room to foreign customers willing to spend more and put our group in a bunk-bed room instead. She promised she wouldn’t put anyone else in with us, but on the second night she added another guest without telling us. The bunk-bed room has a bathroom inside, so if you’re alone, other people could be showering while you sleep. It was the worst experience. I’ll never go back.

We were given detailed information about tourist attractions by staff who spoke English well. The place has lovely traditional Khmer decor, a distinctive four-star set-up and, most of all, real Khmer hospitality. I strongly recommend this unique Khmer house to anyone wanting to relax and experience Khmer culture and tradition.

The hostel itself was really nice, but one of the managers came to find me at my bus stop before I left town and accused me of not paying my bill, even though he’d said goodbye to me at the door. He was rude, angry and offensive, and wouldn’t listen or leave me alone. I paid twice just to get him to go away and stop raising his voice. I personally wouldn’t want my money going to someone like that.
