Ratana Angkor Hotel

The building and rooms didn’t look as nice as the pictures on booking websites, though that’s just my opinion. There were several things that need fixing: the air conditioning, water heater, and room lighting. There were also cockroaches in the room, especially on the fourth floor. One positive was that it was kid friendly, and the pool was very nice.

The room was clean, the mattress was soft, the A/C was cold, and there’s a lift. I had fun swimming, though the pool water looked a bit cloudy, maybe because lots of guests had been swimming after KNY. A few small things could be better. The lighting wasn’t good for doing makeup at the desk, so I had to use the bathroom mirror, but there was nowhere to put my makeup bag. I asked for instant coffee on my second night, but the staff member directed me to have coffee at the restaurant instead. That wasn’t what I wanted, so I let it go. Maybe that sounds selfish, but I’m not rich and I like freebies. I also hope the female receptionist smiles more. I wanted to give 3 stars, but that felt too harsh for minor problems. Hopefully the hotel can improve these things. It’s no big deal, and if this sounds harsh, tell me and I’ll remove it.

I kept extending my stay because Stephanie at reception was so friendly and nice. The room was big, modern, and very well kept, and the cleaners were lovely and helpful. Staff throughout the hotel talked with me and made sure I’d have a good stay. The bar was lovely too, with polite staff. It’s a little way from Pub Street, about a 3km walk or a 2 dollar Tuk Tuk ride. I liked being far enough away to have some peace and quiet, but still close enough for a night out. Food and drink in Siem Reap are very cheap. Great value for money, and I’d highly recommend staying here.

The taxi price was very fair, and NARA was a very polite, helpful driver. He also acted as our guide and photographer. Hotel service, room quality, and breakfast were all much better value than the price suggested. Siem Reap hotels and taxis are good value, though food and restaurants can be expensive for the quality and taste. I wouldn’t come back to Siem Reap, but if I did, I’d stay at this hotel.
