Schein Residence

The hotel can be tricky to find, since tuk tuk drivers don’t seem to know it yet. We used the Grab app to get there. It’s so new that this may be why. Our room was huge, modern but simple, and very clean. The bed was comfortable, the fridge was big, and the views were lovely. Sunrise was amazing. The pool and loungers were relaxing, and the staff, including the manager, were attentive. We arrived earlier than expected, but he made us feel welcome and offered complimentary banana smoothies while we waited to check in. He runs things smoothly and clearly puts guest comfort first.

We were unsure at first because there were only a few reviews when we booked, but ended up extending our two-night stay to four. It was a fantastic hotel, and the small number of reviews made sense once we learned it had only opened a few months earlier. The value was hard to believe. I can only guess they had lowered the prices at first to build an online following, so it felt like a real bargain. Everyone was incredibly friendly. Ryan, sorry if I’ve got the English spelling wrong, looked after us from start to finish. Our room was large, with a massive bathroom, a very comfortable bed, one of the best hotel showers I’ve used, and excellent internet. The restaurant serves Khmer and German food, and every meal was delicious and filling. Ryan is German. The breakfast was lovely and substantial too, so I recommend including it. The pool was always clean and a pleasure to use. Reception could arrange tuk tuks, tours, and onward travel, and we could borrow bicycles for free. This has been one of my favourite stays in Southeast Asia, and I’d happily return. Sorry this review got long, the place deserves it.

The location made it easy to rest peacefully, far enough from the city center to be quiet but not too far away. The hotel also felt very safe, with a card key at the entrance. The staff were amazing, welcoming, friendly, and always willing to go out of their way. Jake, the tuk tuk driver, was great, and the tours were better priced than elsewhere. Ly, the young Cambodian owner, was honest and incredibly helpful with transfers and tours. She’d tell you if something wasn’t worth seeing or paying for. Schein Residence was the best place I stayed during three months of travel in Southeast Asia. It had opened in June 2018 and felt brand new. There was free tuk tuk pickup from the airport, a large and delicious breakfast, and spacious, clean, comfortable rooms with huge bathrooms and excellent shower pressure. Rooms had water, and they were cleaned with towels changed every day. The restaurant food was great, with generous portions. The schnitzel was fabulous. We could add tours and other services to the room bill and pay everything together at checkout, which was convenient for paying by credit card in one transaction. I’ll remember my time here fondly, recommend it to friends, and definitely come back. Thanks so much for everything.

The owners were especially friendly and helpful, and we liked the local feel of the neighborhood. It didn’t feel touristy, but there were lots of good restaurants a five-minute walk away. We liked the place so much that we stayed two extra nights. It has everything you need for a great price: clean rooms, reliable wifi, delicious breakfast, a lovely porch, and a water cooler so you don’t have to buy water.
