The Golden Square Villa

The family running the place were very friendly, and we really enjoyed our four nights there. Our room had lots of space, and housekeeping brought fresh towels each day. Breakfast and coffee were served every morning from 7-10. The night markets and Pub Street were close enough to walk to, and the price was great for what we got.

The airport or bus pickup was free, which was great. Rooms were large, beds comfortable, fans good, bathrooms had decent water pressure, and the location was convenient. It was fairly quiet at night. We booked a double but were given one of the remaining twin rooms. The bathroom had an odd smell even after it was cleaned, and there was no refill point for reusable water bottles. On the second floor, the internet barely worked. Those connection problems were frustrating because we needed to get some work done, so we chose another place. A large water jug in the lobby would also help guests refill bottles. It's somewhere in the middle for hotels, neither the best nor the worst.

The air conditioning didn't work, and all the doors use the same key, which feels about as secure as an unlocked hostel. They charged me for the stay twice: I paid when checking in, then they demanded payment again at checkout.

The desk staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean, with a nice bathroom and air conditioning. It’s close to the center, about a five-minute walk.
