Solitaire Damnak Villa Hotel

It was 41C outside while I was on the top floor, but the room stayed cool after staff suggested leaving the AC on. The neighborhood felt safe, and the location was very good, about a five-minute walk from the loud center. Staff are there 24/7 and always happy to help. There's a small elevator just for luggage. The pool temperature was comfortable, neither hot nor cold. The room had a laptop-compatible safe, quiet AC, and a comfortable bed.

We arrived at 2:30am after a nearly 20-hour trip from Koh Rong to Siam Reap, exhausted, with nowhere to stay. We'd booked and paid in advance for four nights through hotels.com, but the receptionist said there were no rooms and that the listing had appeared there by mistake. I refused to leave the lobby, so the receptionist eventually called the “boss,” who found us a sunbed at another hotel. We got maybe two hours of sleep beside a public pool before people started using it at 6am. They first tried to send us away in the middle of the night, and even the sunbed meant we were still essentially stranded and homeless. We were lucky to have strength in numbers and refused to leave. Another backpacker had already been waiting in reception for an hour in the same situation. The most worrying part was being told by the receptionist that they KNOW THIS HAPPENS and have done nothing to fix it. He said they sometimes have ten people a day arrive after booking through hotels.com, even though the hotel has never put rooms on that platform. I can't stop thinking about what would have happened if I'd been by myself. As a solo female traveller, I can't imagine being put in that situation. This place is dangerous, especially for women travelling alone, and I urge you to avoid it. Now we've had to book a more expensive hotel at the last minute for the rest of our trip in Siam Reap and deal with hotels.com customer service to beg for a refund. All because a room somehow appeared on a site they've “never used.” The magic hotel.com fairies, I suppose 🤷🏻‍♀️. Don't trust this hotel. They know about this dangerous scam and still let it keep trapping tourists.

I stayed for a month, and the staff were amazing, friendly, and helpful. Rooms were spacious, looked just like the pictures, and the hotel was good value. Breakfast was always hot and good. Across the street, there's a laundry where the guy is honest and good, plus a little shop with very friendly people for water and snacks. There's a gym down the street, or you can jog by the river, where coffee vendors are along the road in the mornings. You can walk to all the places you need. I'll stay here again.

The pool area was clean, the staff were courteous and helpful, and being close to Pub Street was convenient. But room 401 didn't match the photos I saw on Agoda, and the room was not clean when I arrived at 2:26PM. There was partly used bottled water and used glasses, the mini fridge was unplugged and visibly stained, and an insect was in the electric kettle. The television was dusty and unplugged, the bed linens looked stained and needed replacing, and there was a dead insect in the toilet bowl. I rarely feel compelled to leave a negative review, but this stay had several problems.
