The Drop Inn

I spent a month at the drop inn and loved every minute. The hostel is clean, cared for and well maintained by the hardworking family who runs the school. They became like a second family, and I miss them already. The place is affiliated with an English language school supporting low income communities in siem riep. You can volunteer and get to know the local community in a really special, unusual way.

It’s a laid-back hostel with all the basics you need, but it feels like a community and a home, not just a place to sleep. It gives you a chance to connect with everyday life in Cambodia. There’s a school where you can volunteer with NDCCORG, teach English to children and learn about the culture. Amazing!

This hostel supports disadvantaged children in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and I can’t put into words how much it changes the lives of more than 350 students. The children get help with English and life skills, and opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have. Every bit of support, generosity and help matters here. I brought my children from the UK to help at the school. They’re 14 and 17, and very privileged, spoiled brats, and the experience was priceless. It made them think about how lucky they are. I’m so thankful I found this place. The money goes back into teaching 350 children English and giving them a chance in life. The hostel may not have everything you want, and it’s about a 10 minute walk from the center of Siem Reap, but what you pay for a room goes a long way. I believe that’s better than Oxfam ect., where 90% of profits go to admin. If you need a hostel, give this place a day or two and ask to help for an hour. These children will love you, and you won’t be disappointed.

Cold beer is available whenever, and the home kitchen turns out Khmer classics. The Drop inn brings in backpackers from all over, with friendly staff and a fun international crowd. A great way to enjoy a holiday while giving back to the local community.
