The Funky Village

The sunset tour was one of our favourite memories in Asia. Thanks so much, Sean, and thanks to Te vy, the best bartender! We loved our stay at the funky village and can’t wait to come back 😊😊

Apart from the name, I didn’t find much going for this hostel. It’s huge but felt empty, and the music almost never stopped, even when there was nobody around to enjoy it. Bar service felt soulless, with no good mornings or goodbyes and not even a fake smile. To be fair, that wasn’t every worker. The upper floor is abandoned, which is a shame because it has pool tables, very nice views, and a bar that goes unused. I didn’t love it, sorry.

I had cash stolen from my private room during a recent stay. When I reported it, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful, showing no concern or responsibility. They said they’d “check the cameras,” though there isn’t a camera facing my room. I pointed that out and asked to see the electronic door log to check when the room had been accessed. They refused and just repeated that they’d “checked the cameras.” I stayed five days, but they didn’t even ask what time period they should review. That made it seem like they had no real intention of investigating. It’s hard to feel safe somewhere that doesn’t seem to take guest security seriously. There was no atmosphere at the hostel. Somehow it felt dead and obnoxiously loud at once, with music blaring constantly even when nobody was around. It was low season, but other hostels in the same area still managed to feel lively and sociable. The deluxe private room itself was decent, and that’s the only positive I can mention. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hostels around the world, and this one is near the bottom of my list. Stay literally anywhere else.

If you want a lively party hostel, this is the place. It’s loud, and the music plays past midnight. The rooms are pretty nice, and the staff are helpful.
